John 15:1-8

"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

Faith is the "connector" of Christians with Christ. A branch is connected to the vine and draws from the vine all that it needs for life. So it is only through our connection to Christ that we have life, that is a new life of faith through which we receive Christ's forgiveness for all our sins and his promise of heaven.

The result of being connected to Christ is that we bear fruit. Just as a branch connected to the vine gives evidence that it is alive by producing fruit, so Christians who are connected to Christ by faith will naturally demonstarte their spiritual life by their fruit, the God-pleasing lives they live in honor to Him.
